DO'S:

*Query first. It's just more polite and professional

*Only send manuscripts when they are requested by Awaticka Literary

*Make sure to tell us about you. We are in the business of helping YOU, and we're going to have to get acquainted.

*Please try to be professional, neat and considerate.

*Always remember to check your spelling and grammar prior to submission

*Keep tabs on what is going on in the world of Publishing

*Keep checking our site for updates and improvements as well as announcements.

*Sign the guestbook and leave a message. We're here for you, so talk to us.

DON'T'S:

*Don't look us up and call the office. We understand communication is important, but our time is stretched pretty thin. We won't call you either unless you ask us.

*Don't ask us to reconsider a work that was turned down unless the necessary changes have been made. We realize you love your work, we may love you, but if it didn't grip US, people who LOVE to read this stuff, the publishers won't be gripped by it either.

*Don't threaten anyone here or ask for special privileges. We're going to be professional with you and we would love to have the same in return.

*Don't ever give up. Calvin Coolidge once said that "persistence and determination alone, are omnipotent", and truer words were never spoken.

Awaticka Guidelines

QUERY FIRST!

We cannot stress enough the importance of receiving a query letter first. These letters should be grammatically correct and though we like them brightly worded, we prefer professionalism. Please tell us who you are, if you've ever been published, a little about what you've written and what you expect from your literary agent... in that order. If we're interested, you will hear from us in two to three weeks. If we're not interested you will hear from us in two to three weeks. Snail mail can take up to five weeks.

In other words, please be patient. If you haven't heard from us in five weeks, please send a follow-up. We are unhappy about losing things in the mail or e-mail and do what we can to prevent it, but it does happen.

MANUSCRIPTS:

We prefer that all manuscripts be submitted with 1.5" margins, double spaced, and 12 point Times New Roman, or Arial fonts. Note, we are not pirates so these are more like a true to life code than actual guidelines.

Manuscripts submitted outside these parameters will not be read.

If you send us a manuscript by snail mail and would like to have it back, submit a self-addressed stamped envelope with sufficient postage to return it, or your postage will go to waste, and your manuscript may wind up in the men's lounge.

We prefer electronic submissions at:

Awaticka_Literary@live.com

But if your current position makes it necessary to use traditional means, please send it to the following:

While we are not currently representing artwork, we do like looking at it. If you have something wonderful to look at, in either the Sci-Fi or Fantasy genres, please feel free to submit it electronically in a (jpg) format. We'll post it on our art page to help you market it free of charge and you will retain all rights. Any artwork you my want to have removed, you can simply write to Awaticka_Literary@live.com address with the word "removal" in the subject line, and we'll remove it. Another good place to post your fantasy and sci-fi art is at http://www.elfwood.com These guys are fantastic, free, and picky so make sure you understand their guidelines before you submit. Below is a canvas by one of our staff members rendered here as a greeting.
